A Wicked Way of Improving Literacy

The Problem

Lyndal, a passionate writer is heading up a project called Wicked Writers, which aims to provide teachers with cool resources that explain the complex grammar concepts of the Australian Curriculum. Wicked Writers allows a teacher to learn the content with their students and to easily facilitate the students learning throughout. Lyndal’s work helps students to expand their vocabulary and increase their ability to manipulate language to create great pieces of writing in all genres and text types.

The Solution:

  1. Lyndal created some sweet 3-5 minute instructional grammar videos to be used as core content.
  2. Make sure you’ve got the time to support the individual students on an ‘as needs’ basis. And make sure the kids know you’ve got the time to work with them. Of course, the kids can watch the videos together, and then return and revise them whenever they feel like they need to.
  3. Share the resources with parents, teachers, and students through email, portals, and embedding them in a language unit.

“Understanding how we can manipulate language to create expression is vital in order to become a Wicked Writer in any genre or text type.”
